We love our basic strength exercises. They help us get stronger! They're the solid foundation of every workout, and they're meant to help us get hella strong and feel stable. BUT....

Your body doesn't move in perfect squats, deadlifts, and rows. You don't live your life in straight lines or form-perfect movements. You're probably moving your body more than you even realize- twisting to move clothes from the washer to the dryer, bending to grab the dog toy that got kicked under the couch, or even reaching into the back seat of the car to pick up your bag.

Unfortunately, movements like these are usually the places people tweak their back or strain their shoulder. Why? You haven't strengthened the weird ways your body can move!

The basic strength exercises cover a LOT, but they're not necessarily strengthening the twisting, the bending, the reaching, the side-stepping, or the awkward carrying you're doing on any given day.

When you add movement strength to your workouts, you're not getting rid of the beautiful basics that help you feel strong and stable. Instead you're adding another layer so that you're also training all the cool ways your body can move!

The #1 mistake I see when it comes to strength training is... not adding MOVEMENT!

Weird movements are strengthened by weird movement strength exercises!

Once you add in those exercises that have you twisting, bending, and reaching, those movements aren't danger zones anymore. You move without worrying if you're going to tweak or strain.

My favorite part about movement strength exercises is that once you feel stronger doing things day-to-day, you'll feel capable of doing even MORE: taking that dance class, going on that hike, signing up for that trip where you know there'll be a ton of walking, or even trying out a sports club to make new friends.
